I was openly excited to have the premiere <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in that historic location, where the tragedy took place<\/span>. My father&#8217;s family were murdered in Babi Yar by the Nazis in September of 1941, and I <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was feeling the suffering of this\u00a0<\/span>deep personal tragedy when I wrote <em>Requiem<\/em>.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section href=\"http:\/\/www.filarmonia.com.ua\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Symphony Orchestra of National Philarmonic Society of Ukraine<\/a>, conducted by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roman_Kofman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roman Kofman<\/a>, was the best premiere <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">imaginable<\/span>.<br \/> Later, <a href=\"https:\/\/day.kyiv.ua\/en\/article\/culture\/music-sorrow-and-hope\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in his interview to\u00a0Ukrainian daily newspaper \u201cThe Day\u201d from October 9
