elementor-clearfix\"><p>The piece was\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conceived for the<\/span> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prestoclassical.co.uk\/classical\/products\/8044787--home-is-where\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Home is where&#8230;<\/a><\/em> CD launched by Atoll (New Zealand), and starring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.victoria.ac.nz\/nzsm\/about\/staff\/donald-maurice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Maurice<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chambermusic.co.nz\/whats-on\/richard-mapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Mapp<\/a>.<\/p><p>Donald premiered this piece in 2013 at the International Viola Congress, in Krakow, Poland, with pianist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amuz.krakow.pl\/en\/wydzialy\/wydzial-ii-instrumentalny\/katedra-kameralistyki\/zaklad-akompaniamentu\/mgr-wioletta-fluda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wioletta Fluda<\/a>.<br \/>The Atoll CD was released that same year.<\/p><p>Later, in February and March 2015, the piece was performed <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at three concerts in the United States<\/span>:<br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The American premiere was<\/span>\u00a0in Baltimore,\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">featuring <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">soloists<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsomusic.org\/musicians\/musician\/peter-minkler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Minkler<\/a> (viola) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lurajohnson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lura Johnson<\/a>\u00a0(piano)<em>.<br \/><\/em>Eight days later, in Houston featuring\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wheelerviola.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lawrence Wheeler <\/a>(viola) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uh.edu\/kgmca\/\/music\/faculty-staff\/morgulis_t\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tali Morgulis<\/a>\u00a0(piano).<br \/>In March 2015, in Walden, Colorado, featuring\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smu.edu\/Meadows\/AreasOfStudy\/Music\/Faculty\/SudweeksBarbara\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barbara Sudweeks<\/a>\u00a0(viola) and <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.coloradocollege.edu\/bulletin\/2010\/12\/peak-profile-jo-garner-boatright-57\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jo Boatright<\/a>\u00a0(piano).<\/p><p>The first movement of <em>Sonata\u00a0<\/em> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was influenced by the\u00a0<\/span>strong emotional impact of two <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">paintings:\u00a0<\/span>Sandro Botticelli&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Madonna del Magnificat<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(1483-1485)\u00a0and \u0438\u00a0<em>Madonna della Melagrana<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>(Virgin with a Pomegranate)<\/em>\u00a0(1487).<\/p><p>While working on <em>Sonata<\/em>, I had an idea that it could also be performed as standalone piece; I named this piece\u00a0<em>Botticelli\u2019s\u00a0Magnificat<\/em><em>.<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p>I shared my idea with Donald and received his support. Donald premiered\u00a0<em>Botticelli\u2019s\u00a0Magnificat<\/em><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>before the premiere of Sonata.<\/p><p>In 2013, this piece was performed by the young Israeli violist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipo.co.il\/en\/orckestra_member\/%D7%9E%D7%AA%D7%9F-%D7%A0%D7%95%D7%A1%D7%99%D7%9E%D7%95%D7%91%D7%99%D7%A5\/\">Matan Noussimovich<\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(you
