Johnson<\/a>.<br \/>I composed the <em>Song of the Sea<\/em> for Dennis Johnson in 2005.<\/p><p>This is what he said about the elementor-clearfix\"><blockquote><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Boris Pigovat is a bright, fresh voice in the world of wind band composition. \u00a0His \u201cSong of the Sea\u201d is an original tone poem written for myself and the Murray State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and was premiered in a special performance in Carnegie Hall on March 29 of 2005. \u00a0This dramatic work captures the beauty and majesty of the open  sea as well as its darker and more ominous mood during a ferocious storm. \u00a0The work carries the listener on a journey through calm and tempest and ends with a grandiose climax that rivals any of the great programmatic composers of this or any era. \u00a0The wind ensemble and I thoroughly enjoyed the preparation and performance of this masterful work as did the exhilarated crowd in Carnegie Hall that called us back three times. \u00a0\u201cSong of the Sea\u201d deserves to be on all collegiate and (technically proficient) high school band  programs throughout the world.\u00a0It is a masterpiece for wind band.<\/span><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-id=\"ebe1dc5\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ebe1dc5 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default elementor-section elementor-top-section\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div elementor-clearfix\"><p>That same year, maestro Johnson premiered the piece with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.murraystate.edu\/academics\/CollegesDepartments\/CollegeOfHumanitiesAndFineArts\/Music\/InstrumentalEnsembles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Murray State University Wind Ensemble<\/a> at Carnegie Hall, in New York.<\/p><p>Later that summer, he performed it<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(a repertoire session at) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the\u00a0<\/span>WASBE Conference in\u00a0 Singapore.<\/p><p>The piece also received the 2005 <a href=\"http:\/\/acum.org.il\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACUM<\/a>\u00a0Prize (ACUM is the Israeli analog of ASCAP).<\/p><p>In 2009, <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Song of the Sea\u00a0<\/span><\/i>had its European premiere in Germany, performed by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abo-muc.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Munich Academic Wind Orchestra<\/a>, conducted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mkummer.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Kummer<\/a>.<\/p><p>Below is the recording from the premiere in Carnegie
