The work premiered in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pittsburghsymphony.org\/pso_home\/web\/heinz-hall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heinz Hall<\/a>\u00a0on September 22, 2017, and conducted by Manfred Honeck.<\/p><p>The work based on verse from <strong>Deuteronomy 30:19<\/strong>:<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-id=\"69983a7\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-69983a7 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default elementor-section elementor-top-section\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div data-id=\"85d9e9e\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85d9e9e elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t<div data-id=\"f0deab2\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f0deab2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-element_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><blockquote><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that\u00a0I have set\u00a0before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life,\u00a0that both thou and thy seed may live&#8230;<\/span><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section data-id=\"ebe1dc5\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ebe1dc5 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default elementor-section elementor-top-section\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div data-id=\"c154e15\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c154e15 elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap\">\n\t\t\t\t<div data-id=\"c760444\" class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c760444 elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-element_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p>I feel that the phrase &#8220;therefore choose life&#8221; is essence of the verse.<br \/>In my work I tried to express my feeling that life (with all its pain, suffering and tragedies) is meant to be filled with beauty, hope, light and love.<br \/>I have written other pieces <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">based on biblical themes<\/span>: <em><a href=\"http:\/\/pigovat.com\/wordpress\/choir_and_orchestra_catalogue\/#eichah_2001\">&#8220;The Lamentations of Jeremiah&#8221; oratorio<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/pigovat.com\/wordpress\/symphony_orchestra_catalogue\/#a_song_of_ascents_2007\">A Song of Ascent<\/a> for Symphony Orchestra<\/em>, and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/pigovat.com\/wordpress\/symphonic_band_catalogue\/#on_mount_sinai_2004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On Mount Sinai<\/a> for Symphonic Wind Band<\/em>. Hence, I was very glad to know from\u00a0the PSO that maestro Honeck was hoping that my new work &#8220;would be inspired by spirituality&#8221;.<\/p><p><em>Therefore Choose Life<\/em> was written as a free symphony poem, and its duration is <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approximately\u00a0<\/span>14 minutes.<\/p><p>There are not quotes or references to Jewish liturgical music or other music, but in the coda,\u00a0 <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the theme of flutes &amp;
