Dec, 2024: Sonata for Bassoon and Piano

Dec, 2024: Sonata for Bassoon and Piano

  • Duration: ca. 16 minutes

I wrote the Sonata for Bassoon and Piano in 2023 and dedicated it to my old friend, Uzi Shalev, bassoonist of the Israel Philharmonic.

The first movement of the Sonata was composed in September 2023. It is impressionistic in style, with a gentle French flavor.
The horrific attack of October 7 interrupted the creative process, and the second movement was written a few months later, expressing the shock and pain caused by the terrible massacre, with references to the Jewish prayer “El Male Rachamim.”
The third movement is a lullaby dedicated to the souls of the victims of October 7.

The world premiere of the Sonata took place in December 2024 in the Chamber Hall of the Israel Philharmonic, performed by Uzi Shalev (Bassoon) and Einat Fabrikant (Piano).
